As a guitarist, I’m drawn to music constantly. Messages in songs, such as “The Heart of the Matter” by Don Henley, resonate deeply.
The more I know, the less I understand
All the things I thought I figured out I have to learn again
I’ve been trying to get down to the heart of the matter
But everything changes and my friends seem to scatter
But I think it’s about forgiveness, forgiveness
Even if—even if—you don’t love me any more
There are people in your life who’ve come & gone
They let you down. You know they hurt your pride
You better put it all behind you, baby, cuz life goes on
You keep carrying that anger, it’ll eat you up inside…
Whether those people are from my professional or personal life, I’ve found the benefits of the message are the same. In fact, deciding to forgive gives a sense of liberation, which allows executives to reach greater heights. That in itself can shape a person’s brand, which, in turn, influences everything.
When all is said and done, I think it’s about forgiveness.
