Can’t Touch That

Sometimes some people do things that violate the bounds of common sense to the point that no amount of damage control can help them.

Such is the case with those who toppled the inspiring duckbill rock formation on the Oregon coast at #CapeKiwanda.

Violation 1: They pushed it over, making it IMPOSSIBLE for it to EVER be restored. (We’re not talking about a Lego monument; this is a 7-foot sandstone pedestal icon. Gone.)

Violation 2: They didn’t realize the principle of transparency: Someone will ALWAYS find out.

Which leads to the subpoint: If you committed a crime, you will need to pay the time…and money.

The manhunt is on now. It’s just a matter of time before the news media will report these men are caught. Like my brother, the cop, has told me, “Crooks are stupid. They will always get caught.” You might not label vandals as crooks, but you might agree they still land in the same category.

Lessons: Don’t do stupid things. Know that someday, what you do will become public knowledge. Act accordingly…with little/no regrets.
