Walter Cronkite was a dean among TV news anchors when I was a kid. So I listened.
He told me about JFK’s death when I was in 2nd grade. He told me – and the rest of America – about Neil Armstrong landing on the moon. He brought a lot of the news to my teenage mind – the Vietnam War, Watergate and on and on.
When he shared this quote, it gave an insight I had never considered but have seen born out over the years.
“A lot of newspaper reporters come up through the police-reporting side, and they see the problems of their fellow man. The meaner side of life is made visible to most young reporters.”
Makes sense.
