I was just media training several clients to address media reporters. Their request: Train us to deal with ambush situations better.
The answer was involved and took half a day of initial training, review of video recordings of them in mock interviews and candid critiques of what went right vs. what they could improve on.
In this session, one key factor was helping them keep composure, maintain a calm presence in the eye of the media crisis, and communicate their messages to a barrage of intense reporters.
It’s all born on the notion that “Energy introduces you before you even speak.” That points to needing more emphasis on HOW you say it – what your body language communicates – long before you say your first words.
Working on that can communicate volumes in your favor.
