One famous part in the movie “Walk the Line” was when the character of Jerry Lee Lewis said,
“God gave us a great big apple, see, and He said don’t touch it. He didn’t say touch it once in a while; He didn’t say take a nibble when you’re hungry; He said don’t touch it! Don’t think about touchin’it, don’t sing about touchin’ it, don’t *think* about singin’ about touchin’ it!”
Same could be said for Donald Trump Jr.’s remark about Skittles and Syrian refugees.
Don’t talk about Skittles or M&M’s or Hershey’s bars or Snickers or Gummy Bears. Don’t even think about talking about it when you’re trying to make a point about refugees, who are . . . REAL PEOPLE. Like you.
If you feel COMPELLED to draw an analogy, which I’m not endorsing btw, talk about ummm apples or pears or grapes or something more generic that DOESN’T single out a brand with millions of dollars of support.
It’s that simple. For more on how to stay out of hot water, check here.
